Janda Stevens, MD, is a board certified Emergency Medicine physician providing care at the region's first high acuity urgent care, Springfield Clinic Urgent Care Plus.
Dr. Stevens earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. She completed her emergency medicine residency at MSU Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center. Prior to joining Springfield Clinic, she practiced for 17 years as an emergency medicine physician.
Originally looking at a career in engineering, Dr. Stevens realized through volunteering at a local hospital that her interest in helping people and her interest in science would be better served through a career in medicine. "I really enjoy working with people," she says. "I am also very empathetic, when someone comes to me in pain I want to help them relieve that pain and send them home happier."
Dr. Stevens highlights the most important thing in helping people is to make sure they know you are listening to them. "If I can go into a room and see a scared patient, I tell them what we are going to do and you see them take that deep breath knowing they have been heard," she says. "That is so satisfying."
