Alexandra Mathern, MD, found her interest in medicine through her friends' parents who were physicians in the community.
"Seeing them in the community and how their patients interacted with them and appreciated what they did for them was extremely formative in my decision to start a career in medicine," she says. "I shadowed a number of women who were OB/GYN that were taking care of women and having families. I thought they were just the coolest."
Dr. Mathern earned her medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks, N.D. and completed her residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. She has been with the TCM team since 2019.
Dr. Mathern's scope of practice includes anyone from their teens until their later years in life.
"As an OB/GYN, I may be the third or fourth person they are maybe telling their story to, and they may feel like they aren't being heard," she says. "I like being with someone through their life-changing moments. Nothing compares to introducing a new baby to their family."
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and four children as well as traveling, swimming, golfing and hiking.
